Dell Vostro 1014 Screen Replacement

Replacing the screen on a Dell Vostro 1014

Though it is both frustrating and inconvenient, a broken Dell Vostro 1014 screen need net be a cause for concern. Oftentimes, people expect technical repairs to be difficult and complex, however, laptop screen replacement is surprisingly simple. Below, we guide you through the Dell Vostro 1014 screen replacement process.

How to replace a Dell Vostro 1014 screen

Step one

Before beginning your repair, unplug your machine from the mains power, remove the battery and disconnect any, (and all,) peripheral devices, (such as speakers, memory sticks and/or hard drives.) Next, gently prise off the plastic covers, (used to disguise the screws underneath,) on the front bezel. Note: there should be six aesthetic covers in total. Once you have removed all of these covers and set them aside safely, remove each of the screws beneath them and, set them aside, also.

Step two

Firmly, (but gently,) ease the front bezel away from the rest of the screen casing, working your way around the sides of the damaged screen. Once you are sure that you have loosened the front bezel sufficiently, ease it away from the hinges of the laptop and, remove it from the machine.

Step three

Having removed the front bezel, you should see the exposed Dell Vostro 1014 screen being held in lace by four further screws. Loosen each of these screws. At the top, (and back,) of the exposed screen, you should see a small cable connected to the machine's webcam. Disconnect this cable.

Step four

Next, pull the broken screen slightly towards you, proceeding to remove the screws found on either side of  it. Once you have removed the screws on both sides of the broken screen, (as it is pulled forwards,) gently take hold of it and lay it, face down, on the keyboard in front.

At the bottom of the screen, you should see a fairly thick, grey cable. Note: this cable is attached to the screen using a fairly strong adhesive. Disconnect the thick, grey cable from the back of the broken Dell Vostro 1014 screen. Once you have disconnected this cable, you should be able to remove the damaged screen from the body of the machine. To replace the broken screen with a newly bought replacement, all you need to do is complete the above instructions in reverse.
