These lines are often the product of a faulty VGA cable or a defective screen. Below, you'll find information on how best to solve the problem. White lines on a laptop screen Explanations and solutions The problem may be caused by the VGA cable: is the problem intermittent; does it come and go? If it does, it may be caused by a faulty VGA cable. This cable helps create an image on your screen by connecting the body of the laptop to the back of the display. Often, this cable runs close to the laptop screen hinges and, so, it can be worn down by continual use of the laptop, (and, thus, continual closing and opening of the laptop lid.) How do I know if it's the VGA cable? If the vertical, white lines on your display are being caused by a faulty VGA cable you should see a significant change in the problem when you open and close your laptop screen. If you think that you have a faulty VGA cable, you'll need to source an adequate replacement. These cables can be difficult to locate, so, we've put together a helpful list of retailers to help get you going. The VGA cable might be loose: the cable that sends the signal to your screen might have become loose or, the connector may not be working efficiently. To ascertain whether this is the problem, you'll need to access the VGA cable, (which is connected to the lower back of your laptop screen.) To do this, you'll need to remove your screen.
