Am I able to replace the screen on my Acer Iconia A500?
Tablet screens are quite fragile and they are often easily damaged. We understand how frustrating it can be when you break the screen on your tablet. Whilst replacing a tablet screen can be rather complex, when armed with the correct knowledge, (and the correct tools,) you should be able to successfully replace your broken Acer Iconia A500 screen yourself.
How to replace a broken Acer Iconia A500 screen
Step one
Before beginning your repair, make sure that you have turned off your Acer Iconia A500. Once you are ready to begin, use a flat edged implement to prise the casing on the back of the tablet away from the body of the machine. Work your way around the back of the machine, prising the back casing away from the tablet. Once you are sure that you have loosened the back casing from the body of the tablet, remove it from the machine and set it aside safely.
Step two
Having removed the back casing, you should see the Acer Iconia A500 battery held in place by a number of screws. Remove all of these screws using a Philips screwdriver and, set them aside safely. Next, use a flat edged implement or an opening tool to gently prise the battery from the machine.
Step three
Once you have removed the battery, locate and remove the screws holding the tablet's speakers in place. You'll also need to disconnect the connector cable. Note: the speaker at the top of the tablet will need to be gently prised out of place using a flat edged implement.
Step four
Next, locate and remove all of the screws on the outer edge of the back casing.
Step five
Then, disconnect the flat cables disguised by strip-like, black tabs. You should also disconnect the small cables attached to the machine. Note: remove the cables with gold ends by pulling them away from the machine, (firmly, but gently.)
Step six
Once you are sure that you have disconnected any, (and all,) of the cables connected to the body of the machine, you should be able to lift the Acer Iconia A500's motherboard clean out of the machine. Next, remove the silver connector at the top of the machine, (where the motherboard lay,) by removing the screw holding it in place. You should now be able to remove the whole silver board out of the back of the tablet. Having removed the silver back casing, you should now see the exposed Acer Iconia A500 screen. To remove the screen, prise it out using a flat-edged implement or a plastic opening tool. Note: the screen is held in place using strong adhesive.
Step seven
Once you have sufficiently loosened the adhesive holding the broken Acer Iconia A500 screen in place, remove it from the machine. To fit your newly bought replacement, all you need to do is complete the above instructions in reverse.
