Replacing the Screen in a Dell Inspiron 1564

Can I replace my cracked or broken Dell Inspiron 1564 screen?

A broken laptop screen can be a source of great frustration and annoyance. However, contrary to popular belief, laptop screen replacement is surprisingly simple. In fact, some of our customers have managed to replace their first broken screen in just half an hour. We receive hundreds of testimonials from satisfied customers. Below, you'll find helpful resources, (an step by step instructions,) that will guide you through the Dell Inspiron 1564 screen replacement process.

How to replace a Dell Inspiron 1564 screen

Step one

Before doing anything else, remove the battery from your laptop and make sure that you have unplugged your machine form the mains power, You should also make sure that you have disconnected all peripheral devices, (eg. speakers, memory sticks and/or hard drives.) When you're ready to begin your repair, use a flat edged implement or your fingers to prise the front bezel away from the rest of the screen casing. Work your way around each edge of the front bezel, easing it away from the damaged display. Note: the front bezel is held in place by plastic hooks which click in and out of place. When you are sure that you have loosened the front bezel sufficiently, remove it from your laptop and, set it aside safely.

Step two

Having removed the front bezel, you should see the broken Dell Inspiron 1564 screen being held in place by a total of six screws, (four at the bottom and two at the top.) Remove each of these screws and, set them aside safely.

Step three

Next, take hold of the top of the screen and care fully pull it towards you. Remember to take care as there are a number of cables attached to the back of the screen. Lay the broken screen, face down, on the laptop keyboard. Attached to the back of the broken screen, (at the bottom,) you should a thick cable with a golden end. Disconnect this cable by removing it from its gold connector, (peeling back any strips of adhesive holding it in place, if necessary.) Note: if the screen in your laptop is an LED display, this should be the only cable you'l need to disconnect, However if your screen has a back-light, (if it's a CCFL display,) you should see a thin strip of electronics, (the inverter board,) at the bottom, (and back of,) the screen, also. If this is, indeed, the case, you'll need to disconnect the thin cable attached to the inverter board also. Once you have completed all of these steps, you should be able to remove the broken screen from the laptop. To fit your newly bought Dell Inspiron 1564 screen, simply perform the instructions, (as described above,) in reverse!
