What Does “PCB or Frame Not Included” Mean on a Touchscreen Assembly?
A replacement touchscreen assembly may include the display, touch digitizer and frame but leave out a small PCB, controller board or other reusable component from the original screen. “Frame not included” means the opposite problem: the new part may need to be fitted into your existing frame or housing. This guide shows exactly what those product descriptions mean, what you may have to transfer and what to check before ordering.

What does “PCB not included” mean?
PCB
The replacement assembly does not include a particular circuit board that formed part of the original display assembly.
You normally need to transfer the compatible original PCB/controller board from the broken assembly to the replacement, together with any required brackets, cables or fixing hardware that the listing says are not supplied. The exact function of the board varies by device, so compare the product photographs and connectors rather than assuming every “PCB” performs the same job.
Likewise, “frame not included” means the replacement is supplied without the particular mounting frame or housing shown on the complete version. You may need to transfer your original frame if it is undamaged and designed to be reusable.

Do not order a “PCB not included” assembly if the original PCB is damaged
A smashed front glass does not necessarily damage the reusable board, but liquid damage, burnt components, torn flex cables or physical damage around the original controller electronics may mean you need the version supplied with the PCB instead.
What an assembly actually contains

“Screen assembly” is a broad spare-parts term. Depending on the laptop, Chromebook, tablet or all-in-one device, the replacement may combine several components that would be separate parts on another model.
Basic assembly layout:
the picture-producing display and touch layer may be supplied together inside a frame, while a PCB or controller board can either be included or transferred from the original part.
LCD or OLED display panel
Produces the image. “LCD assembly” is still commonly used as a general trade term, but some modern touchscreen assemblies contain an OLED rather than an LCD.
Touch digitizer
Detects touch input. It may be a separate bonded layer or the touch sensing can be integrated more closely into the display construction.
Front glass
The protective outer surface. On many devices it is bonded to the touch/display stack and is not intended to be separated during an ordinary screen replacement.
Frame / housing
Supports and positions the display assembly. The word “frame” can describe different plastic or metal structures depending on the device.
PCB / controller board
A printed circuit board used for a model-specific control, interface or interconnection function. It may be supplied with the replacement or transferred from the original assembly.
Flex cables and connectors
Carry display, touch or controller signals between the assembly and the rest of the device. A flex cable visible in a photograph does not automatically mean every associated PCB is included.

There is no universal definition of “complete assembly”
One supplier may mean display + digitizer + frame; another may also include a PCB; another may sell a complete top-cover/lid module with hinges and cables. Treat the photographs, part number and included-parts notes as the final specification.

Compare connectors as well as the board itself
A PCB that looks similar can still have a different revision, flex-cable layout or connector arrangement. Where the listing requires reuse of the original board, transfer the board from the same compatible device/assembly rather than substituting a visually similar PCB.
Why suppliers sell partial assemblies
Why would a replacement touchscreen assembly be sold without a PCB or frame?
It is not necessarily a sign that the replacement is incomplete or inferior. Some device designs are intended to reuse certain parts, and the same bonded display module may be sold in several levels of completeness.
Lower replacement cost
If the original board or frame can be reused safely, supplying only the failed display/touch module can reduce the price.
Parts availability
The bonded display assembly may be available independently even when a complete OEM top-cover module is scarce.
Model-specific electronics
A reusable controller board may be specific to a laptop revision, firmware or connector arrangement, making transfer of the original board the correct route.
Several repair levels
Technicians may choose between a bare bonded assembly, an assembly with frame, or a more complete lid module depending on damage and labour involved.

How to choose the correct touchscreen assembly

Use the exact laptop/device model and screen assembly part number
Do not buy from diagonal size alone. The same laptop family can use different display assemblies, cables and touch electronics.

Check exactly what “frame” refers to
Confirm from the photographs whether the listing means the display mounting frame, front bezel, backing frame or a larger lid/housing component.

Check exactly which PCB is included or excluded
Look at the location, flex cables and connectors in the product images. Do not assume “PCB” means the same board on every model.

Inspect the parts you plan to reuse
The old frame should not be bent or cracked, and the original PCB/flexes should be free from liquid damage, burnt components, ripped connectors or torn traces.

Preserve touch and display features
Resolution, connector, touch technology, OLED/LCD type, refresh rate, colour, webcam cut-outs and other physical details still need to match.

Check whether adhesive is included
Bonded assemblies and frames may require pre-cut adhesive or tape. Do not assume replacement adhesive is supplied unless it is listed.

Transferring the original parts
What usually has to be transferred when the PCB or frame is not supplied?
The answer is model-specific, but the reusable components can include the controller PCB, small interface boards, flex cables, brackets, frame, display cable, webcam or other lid hardware. Only transfer parts that belong to the same compatible assembly and remain serviceable.

Touchscreen assemblies can contain several visually similar connectors. A clear photograph of the routing, connector orientation and tape positions makes reassembly far safer than relying on memory.

Disconnect the charger and isolate the battery
Do this before connecting or disconnecting display, touch or controller-board cables.

Use plastic opening tools around glass and bezels
Metal tools can chip glass, short electronics or mark the lid if used carelessly.

Transfer components one at a time
Match each cable and connector to the original routing and avoid folding flex cables more sharply than necessary.

Test image, touch and brightness before the final seal
Reconnect power only after all screen connections are safely seated. Verify the picture and touch response before permanently bonding the assembly into the lid.

Another common buying mistake
“No digitizer” is different from “PCB not included”
These phrases describe completely different missing components. PCB not included means a circuit/controller board is not supplied. No digitizer means the advertised part does not include the touch-sensing component expected for a separate-digitizer touchscreen design.

Check the part number, photographs and included components
A cheaper “PCB not included” or “frame not included” option can be exactly the right replacement when the original reusable parts are intact. It is the wrong choice when the parts you need to transfer are themselves damaged.

What does PCB not included mean on a touchscreen assembly?
It means the particular printed circuit/controller board referenced by the listing is not supplied with the replacement assembly. If the design requires it, you must transfer the compatible working board from the original assembly or obtain it separately.
What does frame not included mean?
It means the replacement does not include the particular supporting frame or housing referred to in the listing. The exact meaning of “frame” varies between devices, so use the product photographs to identify what must be reused.
Can I reuse the PCB from my broken touchscreen?
Often yes when the product is specifically sold for reuse of that original board and the PCB, connectors and flex cables are undamaged. Do not reuse a board with liquid damage, burnt components or torn connections.
Is a touchscreen assembly with PCB easier to fit?

No universal definition exists. Check the listing photographs and included-parts description. A product called a complete assembly may still exclude the rear lid, hinges, display cable, webcam or other hardware.
What if my original PCB is damaged?
Buy the version that includes the required PCB or source the correct compatible board separately. Ordering a “PCB not included” version only makes sense when the necessary original board can be reused.
What if my original frame is bent or cracked?
Choose an assembly supplied with the correct frame or replace the frame separately. A bent frame can place uneven pressure on the replacement glass or stop the assembly sitting correctly.
Is a touchscreen digitizer the same as the PCB?
No. The digitizer is the touch-sensing component. A PCB is an electronic circuit board. Some touch systems use separate controller electronics, but the terms are not interchangeable.
Should I test the touchscreen before sticking the assembly down?
Yes. After all connections are seated safely, test the picture, touch response and brightness before applying the final adhesive or closing the assembly permanently.
Should I disconnect the battery before transferring the PCB?
Yes. Disconnect the charger and isolate the internal battery according to the device service procedure before connecting or disconnecting screen, touch or controller-board cables.
